Phil and Ian Star for 4ths but it’s not Quite Enough!

Justin and his 4th team squad travelled to the pleasant surrounds of Plumpton and EC CC eager to get their division 8 campaign against a team with a similar record up and running.  Under sometimes threatening cloud but mostly warm temperatures an excellent spirited game ensured.  Phil Standen hit a wonderful 69 runs while Ian Jones took three wickets in reply however those contributions were not enough to prevent a win for the hosts.

Batting first Justin had to dig deep in the opening salvo but cut loose with four nice boundaries on route to 18.  Then Stephen Oliver played a typical entertaining inn of 24 while Paul Jefferies looked in mercurial mood.  It was very unfortunate he broke down with a hamstring problem and had the use of a runner (Stephen). Paul managed to find the boundary in consecutive balls but his inability to step forward halted his score of 27.  While all this was going on Phil Standen was showing all his experience and skill sets on the way to an unbeaten 69 runs.  It was a score that was very much needed as the innings finished on 155 off the allotted 40 overs.

Tea Taken

Plumpton got off to a good start with the 1st wicket falling at 23.  The next wicket fell at 72 with the hosts on top.   However, skipper Justin and Ian Jones (3 for 41) just managed to put the brakes on for a few overs.  In fact, Justin took a good catch during this time.  If we had of taken another wicket right, then things might have been different.   It wasn’t to be as L James suddenly started to hit some blistering shots to the boundary.  His quick 39 not out took the game away from the Nomads.

Bowman said ‘a very enjoyable match played in the best of spirits on a very pretty ground.  Phil was my Nomads man of the match (see his interview on the club twitter site).  All the signs are there that our 4th team will secure that illusive 1st win of the season soon.  Many thanks to Plumpton for hosting and looking after us.  We shall look forward to your company back at the SCMG later in the season.

2nd Team take victory at the Nevill.

Taron (96 not out) and Dan I (54 not out) were the toast of the club as they chased down 168 with out loss.  With Adam O and Ammad K both getting three wickets earlier it was a wonderful day for our 2nd team.   Our second team are looking very much on the up.

Third team take Victory at the SCMG

Four wickets for Michael Bell and two catches from Yosef paved the way for a small score by Plumpton 1st team of 137.  That was never going to be enough as Alex Hunt (28) and that man Michael scoring 29 not out.  Perhaps the standout performance was by James Oliver with a wonderful half century.  Our third team are looking very good this season.

1st team lose against Brighton at Home.

There isn’t a lot that can be said about our 1st team performance.  Its one to draw a line under and quickly.

There you have a roundup of the day’s action.  After the train post today perhaps its time to take a break.  I am in the Red Sea tomorrow but will be back on duty in 10 days’ time.  Good luck to all connections tomorrow and next Saturday.
